Dr. Morufu Raimi
Biography & Expertise
Dr. Morufu Olalekan Raimi is an environmental and public health scientist with over 15 years of experience spanning academia, research, government, and international development. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology at the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. His research interests include environmental health, pollution management, environmental epidemiology, climate change, water quality, hydrogeochemistry, health risk assessment, toxicology, and sustainable development.
Dr. Raimi holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Environmental Health Science from Kwara State University, an M.Sc. in Environmental Health Management from the University of Uyo, and a B.Sc. in Geography and Environmental Management from Niger Delta University. He has taught and undertaken academic and research activities across several Nigerian universities, including Niger Delta University, the University of Maiduguri, the University of Uyo, Kwara State University, and Federal University Otuoke.
His work is particularly focused on understanding the relationships among environmental contamination, human exposure, public health outcomes, and sustainable environmental management. He has contributed extensively to scholarly research and multidisciplinary collaborations addressing groundwater pollution, chemicals and health, climate-related environmental risks, pollution control, environmental governance, and community health.
Beyond academia, Dr. Raimi has contributed to environmental and public-health initiatives involving governmental, professional, and international organisations. He serves as a Sectoral Principal Investigator with the United Nations Environment Programme's International Methane Emissions Observatory and has participated in research, technical advisory, capacity-building, and policy-related activities aimed at translating scientific evidence into practical environmental and public-health solutions.
Dr. Raimi is also actively involved in scholarly publishing and editorial activities. His interdisciplinary scholarship and professional engagements reflect a continuing commitment to advancing environmental health science, evidence-based policymaking, sustainability, and the protection of human and ecosystem health.
