Overview
This cross-sectional multinational study (N = 1,438 respondents across Nigeria and the United States) investigated the statistical relationship between spirituality and environmental responsibility. The research examined whether spiritual beliefs, values, and leadership significantly influence pro-environmental behaviors and conservation willingness.
Research Objectives
• Determine the association between spirituality and environmental responsibility.
• Evaluate the impact of spiritual leadership on conservation behaviors.
• Identify spirituality-related predictors of willingness to engage in global conservation efforts.
• Assess how faith-based messaging may strengthen sustainability campaigns.
Methodological Strength
• Cross-sectional descriptive research design.
• Validated instrument (Cronbach’s alpha ≥ 0.70).
• Ordinal Logistic Regression modeling.
• SPSS v21 statistical analysis.
• Multicultural dataset (Nigeria & USA).
Key Findings
• Over 70% affirmed a duty of care toward nature.
• More than 60% would take conservation more seriously if spiritual leaders actively taught it.
• Protecting the environment was widely regarded as a form of worship.
• Spiritual practices (prayer, meditation, fasting) significantly predicted conservation willingness.
• Spiritual leadership emerged as a behavioral catalyst for sustainability engagement.
Funding & Impact Efficiency
This project was fully sponsored by Koozakar Curiosity Lab (USA) and executed with a modest research investment of approximately $13,000, demonstrating high-impact sustainability research delivered through strategic and efficient funding deployment.
Strategic Significance
The findings position spirituality as a powerful behavioral bridge for climate advocacy and demonstrate the untapped potential of faith-based institutions in advancing global sustainability goals.
