EMAIL ORCID Google Scholar Research GateDr Okoro Sunday Asangausung is a Nigerian criminologist whose work bridges criminology and sociology, with a strong applied focus on crime management, the criminal justice system (CJS), informal justice systems, community security, and social development. He serves as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Nigeria, where he teaches sociology, research methods and criminology-related courses (Sociology of Crime and Delinquency, Sociology of Law, Deviance Behaviour and others).
Dr Asangausung holds a PhD degree in Criminology from the University of Uyo, where he also earned his MSc degree in Criminology and BSc (Hons) degree in Sociology and Anthropology. His academic formation emphasises both theoretical depth and empirical field engagement, particularly within communities affected by insecurity, youth restiveness, and informal justice practices. He is a registered member of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA).
He has contributed to several local and international scholarly journals and book chapters. His scholarship is widely accessed through platforms such as Google Scholar, ResearchGate, ORCID and Academia, reflecting a growing research visibility in the Nigerian criminological community. He is currently the Coordinator of the Quality Assurance, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and Secretary, Faculty of Social Sciences Research, Conference/Seminar Committee, Akwa Ibom State University.
His research interests include criminology and security studies. Dr Asangausung is familiar with the use of both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. At AKSU, he is actively involved in teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and departmental research initiatives. His work extends beyond the university into community engagements, police–community dialogue sessions, and socio-legal advocacy projects that aim to reduce extrajudicial violence and strengthen local security governance. A committed academic and emerging voice in Nigerian criminology, Dr Asangausung continues to advance research that informs policy debates, strengthens justice-sector reforms, and deepens scholarly understanding of crime and social order in Nigeria’s rapidly changing socio-political landscape.
