Philips Adekemi, LL.B., BL, LL.M (International Taxation), is an accomplished tax professional and global legal scholar whose work bridges the intersection of tax justice, policy reform, and international development. Trained in International Taxation at the University of Florida and in Law at Obafemi Awolowo University, he brings a multidisciplinary perspective to how tax systems can promote fairness, accountability, and equitable economic growth. His professional experience includes serving as a U.S. Tax Advisor with KPMG US, an international tax and legal advisor at FSDH Holding Company Limited, and as a Racial Justice Research Assistant at the University of Florida, where he explored the nexus between fiscal policy and social equity. Operating between the United States and Nigeria, he collaborates with institutions, policymakers, and scholars to strengthen global tax governance through rigorous research and data-driven advocacy.

Adekemi’s research explores the complexities of global tax reform, particularly the implications of OECD and UN frameworks on developing economies. His studies critically examine how multinational enterprises exploit tax loopholes and how legislative mechanisms can minimize avoidance and enhance compliance. He has contributed to over ten scholarly and policy-oriented publications across respected journals, including the Global Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainability (GJESS), Carnelian Journal of Law and Politics (CJLP), Gravitas Review of Business and Property Law (GRBPL), Journal of Advanced Public International Law and the University of Lagos Law Review. His work on corporate sustainability, digital taxation, and fiscal transparency continues to inspire dialogue among legal practitioners, academics, and international agencies seeking to reform outdated tax systems.

Beyond publishing, Adekemi plays an active role in shaping scholarly discourse. He has served as a peer reviewer for the Liu Institute for Global Issues (University of British Columbia) and the International Journal on Minority and Group Rights (Wisconsin International University College, Ghana), where he reviewed works addressing African development, equity, and minority rights. His research contributions have reached broader audiences through the Vanguard and Nigerian Tribune, which featured his findings on tax waivers and dispute resolution in international trade. His extraordinary scholarly contributions have earned recognition from leading institutions, including the World Bank’s Certificate of Appreciation for Research, the President’s Distinguished Tax Award from the University of Florida, and the Manfred Lachs Moot Court Award from the International Institute of Space Law in South Africa.

Adekemi’s influence extends beyond academia. As founder of Diverse Law, a Lagos-based initiative, he promotes equitable access to justice and public understanding of legal systems in Africa. His professional journey reflects a commitment to leveraging legal knowledge to improve economic justice and institutional integrity. Through his cross-border collaborations, he has advanced a model of tax cooperation that prioritizes inclusivity, transparency, and mutual accountability between developed and developing nations.

Currently, Adekemi is focusing on integrating artificial intelligence into tax governance frameworks to improve compliance and reduce administrative burdens. His near-term goal is to establish an African Tax Governance Observatory, a platform dedicated to promoting open data, digital accountability, and evidence-based policymaking in fiscal administration. With a growing body of scholarly work, international partnerships, and public engagement, Philips Adekemi continues to shape the future of tax justice and economic governance on a global scale.
